Governor's Mansion Landscaping Project
The Georgia Green Industry Association (GGIA) and the FFA partnered with Governor Sonny Perdue and mansion staff to landscape the front portion of the Georgia Governor's Mansion on May 29. Members of the North Forsyth, North Oconee, Pope, and Sonoraville FFA chapters participated in the landscaping project. Click here to see pictures from the event!

The 2009 Greenhand Jamboree and Success Conference were held at the
Georgia FFA/FCCLA Center February 27-28. Over 450 people from 42 chapters
across the state attended the conferences to develop their leadership skills.

FFA Members Honored at State BOE Meeting
On December 10, 2008, FFA members were recognized at the Georgia
Department of Education Excellence Recognition Program. State
Superintendent Kathy Cox and the entire State Board of Education were
there to honor the achievements of FFA members at the 81st National FFA Convention.
Members who attended the program were Nicholas Worley, Ryan Highsmith,
Bryce Kirkpatrick, Jason Segers, Brantley Bell, Ryan McLeod, Seth Peavy, Josh Poole,
Chris Cooper, Danny Hobbs, Travis Walden, Edward Moore, and Clayton Thornton.

Discovery Conference
The 2008 Discovery Conference was held December 5-6 at the FFA/FCCLA Center near Covington. Over 300 middle school FFA members gathered together to learn about FFA opportunities and agriculture.

81st National FFA Convention
The Georgia FFA Association had 9 naitonal winners, was recognized for the largest membership growth in the nation, and witnessed one of their own elected to serve as a national FFA officer at the 81st National FFA Convention. Click here to learn more.

FFA Night at the Thrashers
On Friday, November 14, the Atlanta Thrashers are hosting an FFA Night for their match with the Carolina Hurricanes at Phillips Arena in Atlanta. The activity will start at 3:00 p.m. with a speaker series that will allow FFA members to hear from a variety of educational speakers, including an inside look at how professional sports franchises are run. Following the speaker series, students will be encouraged to visit the food court at the CNN Center that attaches to Phillips Arena for supper.

National Recognition for Georgia FFA
Georgia will be well-represented at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis this October. Georgia has 15 National Proficiency Finalists, 22 National Chapter Award Winners, 2 Models of Inovation Finalists, 8 Honoarary American Degree Recipients, and 53 American Degree Recipients. Nicholas Worley will also represent Georgia as an Agriscience Student of the Year Finalist.

Chapter Officer Leadership Training
Over 500 students attended this year's COLT Conferences to find the "Recipe for Success." The state-wide COLT was held July 22-24 at the FFA/FCCLA Center. This year, we did one-day COLT Conferences at each of the three regions. The North Region COLT was held August 21 at Gordon Central High School. The Central Region COLT Conference was held August 26 at Camp John Hope. The South Region COLT was held August 28 at the UGA at Tifton Campus Conference Center.

Madison County FFA Student Wins Trip to
Washington, D.C.

Shelly Patton, a junior from Madison County, was one of ten finalists in the USDA's 2007 Risk Management Contest. In May, she and the other finalist spent 5 all-expense paid days in Washington. Click Here to find out what Patton did in Washington and how you could have this same opportunity.
