National:

  • There are 495,046 FFA members in 7,210 chapters
  • 37% of FFA members are female; women hold more than 47% of state leadership positions.
  • 77% of FFA membership is Caucasian, 17% is Hispanic, 4% is African-American.
  • 27% of FFA members live in rural farm areas, 39% live in rural non-farm areas and the remaining 34% live in urban and suburban areas.
  • FFA chapters are in 15 of the 20 largest U.S. cities, including New York, Chicago, and Philadelphia.
  • FFA is in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
  • Across the country there are more than 10, 000 FFA advisors.
  • In 2007, 47 proficiency areas will be sponsored to recognize students with both placement and entrepreneurship projects.
  • 24 national Career Development Events exist to test students’ knowledge and expertise in those areas.
  • FFA’s Federal Charter allows agricultural education and the FFA to have a place in the Federal and State Department of Education and receive Federal grants.
  • FFA is not a club; it’s a national organization for students enrolled in agricultural education.
  • FFA membership is open to students enrolled in agricultural education with ages ranging from 12-21.
  • The National FFA Foundation awards more than 2 million dollars in scholarships annually for graduating high school seniors pursuing higher education.
  • The National FFA Center in located in Indianapolis, Indiana.
  • 1928- FFA was founded
  • 1944- The National FFA Foundation was founded.
  • 1950- FFA received a Federal Charter from Congress (Public Law 740). It’s the only student organization that has a Federal Charter.
  • 1965- NFA and FFA merged
  • 1969- FFA membership was extended to females
  • 1971- FFA Alumni was founded
  • 1988- Name was changed from the Future Farmers of America to the National FFA Organization.

 

State:

  • There are more than 25,000 members in Georgia, making us the 3rd largest state association in the nation.
  • There are 240 FFA chapters and 375 FFA advisors in Georgia.
  • The Georgia FFA Foundation raised over $350,000 last year to reward Georgia FFA members for their accomplishments.
  • In Georgia, the Program Manager for Agricultural Education, also known as the State Advisor, is Mr. John Wilkinson. Mr. Wilkinson is housed in Atlanta with the Georgia Department of Education.
  • The State FFA Executive Secretary is Mr. Ben Lastly. Mr. Lastly is located in Athens.
  • The Georgia FFA Convention is held in Macon at the Centreplex with more than 2,600 members and guests attending.
