2007 Summer Leadership Camp Recap:

Over 1250 FFA and FCCLA campers participated in Summer Leadership
Camp in 2007. The theme of camp was "You Can't Finish If
You Never Get Started."
Leadership
and teamwork are central themes of camp. Students had Team Time,
where they participated in team-building initiatives to help them
get to know each other better and learn team concepts. Students
also utilized the teambuilding elements on the Georgia FFA-FCCLA
Center Leadership Course. The new Team Captain Program debut was
very successful, as students stepped into more leadership to help
campers get the most out of the camp experience.

Assemblies included talent shows, staff skits, and plenty
of fun. Teams competed in the "Amazing Race" challenges.
After the assemblies, there was a dance each night of camp.
On
Monday evening, students enjoyed Monday Night Madness. The games
included cricket spit, car cram, bobbing for veggies, hop relay,
and a watermelon eating contest. At then end of the evening, everyone
enjoyed the new "mega slide," which turned out to be
huge hit!
One
of the largest parts of Summer Leadership Camp is the Team of
the Week competition. Throughout the week, teams earn points by
competing in various events. At the end of the week, the team
with the most points earns the title "Team of the Week."
Competitions this year included softball, volleyball, swim meet,
4x100 relay, tennis, miniature golf, ping pong, basketball, crafts,
canoe race, fishing tournament, skeet shooting, archery, and .22
rifle shooting, and more.
Of
course, students enjoyed some free time as well. During free time,
campers enjoyed activities such as horseback riding, swimming,
canoeing, paddleboating, craft shop, miniature golf, ping pong,
or just relaxing in the shade.
On
the last night of camp, students competed in the obstacle course.
The obstacle course was challenging, wet, and muddy! The annual
highlight of the course is the slippery pipe traverse over a mud
pit!
2007 Summer Leadership Camp was a success, thanks to all of
the great students, advisors, and summer staff. We hope that everyone
will come back again next year, and we hope that we will see lots
of new faces in 2008!
