SAE:

Plan and Develop a School Nature Trail

Description:

A student can plan and develop an Outdoor School Nature Trail as their SAE. A trail that involves a wide variety of habitats is the best. Permission for the construction of school trail must be obtained from the administration. The trail may be routed over several acres. Very little expense is involved in this SAE, other than the cost of signage and the cost of lumber for any bridges or wooden walk ways.

The trail must be planned and not just be made with out the proper planning. Consideration of the slope of the land and location of different habitat should be made.

When developing a trail, safety is a major concern, especially, when students are using sling blades and other cutting devices.

Other projects relating to this nature trail include the construction of nesting boxes, wildlife food plots and educational signage. Also, a self-guided tour book can be developed to point out certain educational points.
