| SAE: | Working At A Garden Center |
| Description: | |
|
Gardening is a popular hobby with today's homeowners, and garden centers are increasing in number throughout Georgia. Although many employees of garden centers are highly skilled, there are also many low skilled and beginning jobs available. This is a labor intensive and seasonal business. A student beginning with a garden center job should expect to begin at the bottom and work up. This is an excellent opportunity to develop basic work habits. Other skills such as plant use, care, and identification will develop with time. As experience is gained, the student may be allowed to help with sales, which will lead to increasing marketing skills. This SAE could lead to a career in landscape maintenance, landscape design, and garden center management. These are rapidly expanding career areas. Written by Myron Sellars, 2002 |
