| SAE: | Raise Backyard Poultry |
| Description: | |
| Raising Backyard Pullets or hens is an ideal project for
the student who lives in town or in suburban areas because it requires
such little land area. The
student could start with baby chicks or young pullets and develop them
into laying hens. Six to
twelve hens is an ideal number to have to provide fresh table eggs for
the family. This project is very inexpensive from a standpoint of facilities,
feed and time needed to ensure its success.
Baby chicks can be secured from many feed and seed stores or
even from mail order catalogues.
Large poultry companies that operate in the area can sometimes
provide young pullets to local students.
