 Adopt an area of school campus for beautification

Description:

 Description: Student will locate an area on the school campus for landscape beautification. First the site should be analyzed, identifying existing hardscapes and plant materials and a scaled replica drawn of the site.

Second a plan of improvement should be developed listing all equipment, supplies & materials needed plus a calendar of events of when the improvements will be made. Student will re3cord improvements as they are made, documenting materials used, cost, and time it took to complete the improvement.

Landscape improvements could include:

Fall: (Sept - Nov)

  1. Establishment of cool season lawn area
  2. Fertilization and maintenance of cool season lawn area
  3. Planting of shrubs, trees, perennials, bulbs, cool season annuals
  4. Application of pre-emergence herbicide for cool-season weeds
  5. Mulching of beds for winter protection

Winter (late Jan - March)

  1. Prune trees and shrubs (except for spring bloomers)
  2. Application of pre-emergence herbicide for warm-season weeds

Spring (April - May)

  1. Planting of perennials, warm season annuals, shrubs
  2. Prune spring flowering trees and shrubs after bloom
  3. Establishment of warm season lawn
  4. Dethatching, aeration, reseeding of warm season lawns
  5. Begin fertilization program for warm season lawn
