SAE:

Start a Farm Sitting Business for Vacationing Farmers

Description:

House sitting has been a common practice for years. People are willing to pay someone to watch over their home while they are on vacation. Farm sitting takes this one step further. Farmers often feel they can’t leave their duties on the farm to enjoy a vacation with their family. With virtually no start-up cost you can start your own service-based business of farm sitting.

Begin by advertising your service in your community newspaper, local agriculture related organizations (Cattleman’s, Farm Bureau, etc.), or county extension office. After making contact with the farmer, make yourself available to visit the farm to learn what needs to be done while the farmer is away.

If you don’t know the farmer personally, it would be helpful to have a list of references from the community that the farmer can contact.
