SAE: Wire a Home Shop, Utility Room, Barn, etc.
Description:

Agricultural wiring is a skill that can be transferred to all aspects of life. No matter what you do with a career you will have to perform wiring maintenance or installation in your home. The only other option is to hire the work done which can be expensive. This is a project that will require the student to perform a high level of problem solving and mathematical skills while planning the installation. Preparing a bill of materials and securing the materials will increase the student’s awareness of the importance of proper planning and management of resources. This is an excellent project for students to apply wiring skills learned in the classroom. The project could vary with the student’s knowledge and resources. The project could be planned easily, and would be an excellent component of a Chapter EMC Application. Many students already have the facilities that need additional work or an upgrade to the wiring plan.

Notes:
This project would be an excellent part of an ongoing proficiency area. On its own, the time element would not allow it to stand on its own as a semester long SAEP.

Special attention needs to be paid to safety concerns and procedures.
