Horse Colors and Markings
ALBINO=A horse that lacks pigment in the skin and hair
PALOMINO=A horse with golden body color and white mane and tail
BUCKSKIN=Light gold to brown body color with black mane, tail and legs
GRULLA=Body color smoky or mouse-colored; black mane and tail; usually has dorsal stripe and black on lower legs
BAY=Body color ranging from tan to reddish-brown with black mane, tail and legs
SORREL=Body color reddish or copper-red; mane and tail are same color as body or flaxen
DUN=Body color yellowish or gold; mane and tail are brown or black; may have dorsal stripe
REDROAN=More or less uniform mixture of white with red hairs on the body; darker on the head and legs
BLUEROAN=More or less uniform mixture of white with black hairs on the body; darker on the head and legs
CHESTNUT=Body color dark red or brownish red; mane and tail dark red or brown
BLAZE=Vertical marking of medium, uniform width that is the length of the face
STOCKING=A full marking on the leg to the area of the knee or hock
BALDFACE=Very broad face marking; larger and wider than blaze
STAR=Any marking on the forehead
STRIP=Narrow marking vertically in the area between the forehead and nostrils
SOCK=A marking extending from the coronet halfway to the knee or hock
CORONET=Narrow marking around the coronet
SNIP=Any white marking between the two nostrils
PASTERN=A marking on the lower leg that includes the pastern
